Leading Cheshire hotel, and one of the best hotels and wedding venues in Cheshire and the North West, the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa offered their support to the Medicash Celebrity Golf Classic fundraising event held in September to raise money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation; which is the UK’s only charity committed exclusively to battling lung cancer.
The Grosvenor Pulford Hotel and Spa, owned and operated by Nelson Hotels, provided substantial support, in both co-sponsoring the event and donating a Luxury Spa Break for Two; which raised a fantastic £1,840 as the headline draw which took place at the event.
This long running, and popular golf event, which was held at the Hillside Golf Club in Southport, pitted football pundit Mark Lawrenson against former Liverpool FC teammate Alan Kennedy, and Everton FC old boy Duncan McKenzie through 18 rounds of cracking golf. The event was rounded off by an evening of entertainment hosted by Alan Kennedy, consisting of a three-course dinner and after dinner entertainment from ‘Trick Shot King’ Jeremy Dale and comedian Denny Waters.
The incredible and indulgent Grosvenor Pulford Hotel and Spa prize was awarded to competition winner Louise Burns-Lunt by reigning Miss Liverpool Sarah Fairley. Her prize includes a splendid three night stay for two at one of the deluxe rooms at the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa. Our sensational, four star hotel is a large and luxurious hotel set within its own beautiful grounds and featuring the renowned Spa by Kasia. The Grosvenor Pulford Hotel is just a modest 5 minutes from Chester and boasts the North West’s only hamman. Here, our competition winner will enjoy a 55 minute facial, 55 minute full body massage, and day spa escape, which all come courtesy of the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel and Spa. There will even be champagne and chocolates provided as part of the sensational luxury prize package.
On winning the Luxury Spa Break, Louise commented: “I was thrilled to receive this amazing Luxury Spa Break at The Grosvenor Pulford Hotel, and I am thoroughly looking forward to some relaxation and pampering at this renowned hotel and spa. Knowing the funds were donated to such a worthy cause makes it all the more special.”
Lucy Nelson, sales and marketing director of Nelson Hotels, says: “We were absolutely honoured to be involved in raising funds for this very worthy cause. We are sure that Mrs Burns-Lunt and her guest will thoroughly enjoy her stay with us, and leave feeling fully relaxed and rejuvenated.”

For holidays in Turkey that are a slight change of pace, the historic town of Kalken is a must visit. This enchanting Turkish holiday resort is one of the most stunning and beautiful locations along Turkey’s gorgeous Lycian Coast.
Kalkan is a Turkey holiday destination with a difference because it has not become a centre of mass tourism like other Turkish resorts, but remains a charming, unspoiled haven of lush nature, crystal clear, bright blue water and plenty of historic architecture, like many traditional holidays in Turkey. Untypical it might be, but Kalkan is still a magnificent choice of venue for your next sunny Turkey holiday.
The Mediterranean resort and fishing town of Kalkan is more sophisticated than many Turkish holiday resorts and may appeal to tourists looking for holidays in Turkey which offer more than simply sun, sea and sand. It has been likened to Tuscany and the Dordogne. While not overrun with mass Turkey holiday tourists, Kalkan does have a faithful base of repeat holidaymakers, who after experiencing a Kalkan-style Turkey holiday just have to do so again and again.
Kalkan wraps around a historic harbour, sheltered at the foot of the epic Taurus Mountains. The town overlooks a beautiful bay dotted with islands. It is a special place, with a unique, small town atmosphere with breathtaking, architecture and artwork.
While Kalkan is beautiful, its main economy does not come from tourism and so the local residents take greater care and attention with the town’s historic preservation. Visitors are almost transported into Turkey’s varied and colourful cultural history. Kalkan’s distinctive Ottoman Greek architecture is protected by strict building codes which keep the small town architecturally uniform, retaining its historic heart.
Many excellent restaurants and bars contribute to the unique atmosphere here. Dining has long been a way of life in Kalkan and the local cuisine is testament to this. For holidays in Turkey with a unique flavour and authentic atmosphere, choose Kalkan for your next Turkey holiday. If you do, we guarantee it will not be the last Turkey holiday you spend there.
